This transcript corresponds to the FAME video on Introduction to Rights and Responsibilities Module.

Jennifer H. Aaron, Training Specialist, Special Education and Transition Services, Ohio State University:

My job is to help train faculty members, to work with students with disabilities and to hopefully better the communications within the parties involved.

I have a learning disability. People who have learning disabilities have a variety of different types as far as their strengths and weaknesses are concerned.

Rights and responsibilities is a team effort. There are rights and responsibilities of faculty members, there are rights and responsibilities of students, and rights and responsibilities that the Disability Services Office have to those students and faculty. And it's a team effort. If you don't understand the parties involved, or how they work together, then communication fails. Students come to you on campus with a variety of different levels of understanding their disabilities, so the more you can understand their world, the better off you are in creating a better communication line.

There are a lot more people with disabilities on campus than people realize. My hope is that you walk away from this module with a better understanding of the student population and how a population like this exists on your campus, whether you visually see them or not.
