One project I worked on in collaboration with a colleague at my college focused on color coding as a way for students to organize their writing. Students read through their writing and underline different ideas they make, pinpointing each point with a different color. In the process they create a visual map of content and form. My colleague, the coordinator of tutoring at the college, first used this technique in her one to one work with students. Its value became evident to me when I saw my own students not only using it, but teaching it to their classmates.
