Photo: Jenna - an above average intelligent student with LD

Jenna Johnson has a learning disability. Although you wouldn't know it from looking at her, Jenna can't read like most people. It takes her two to three hours to struggle through twenty pages of text. Jenna has above average intelligence and makes good grades. She is a conscientious student. Functionally, she assimilates information at about the same pace as a student who is legally blind.

Jenna uses assistive technology to get the information she needs. She listens to audiocassettes of her textbooks (books-on-tape) and sometimes uses a computer with text-to-speech software that reads material to her. Jenna is a typical user of assistive technology.
