"WA: Course Materials" Case
Case Description
Jenna Johnson is a student in your American History class. Jenna has given you a letter from the DSS office, which identifies her as a student with a disability and requests that you provide her with the following accommodations:- Extended time on all tests, examinations and quizzes up to two times the regular amount of time
- Testing in a reduced distraction environment.
- Books-on-tape
- Use of electronic-text (e-text) with a speech enabled laptop for all supplementary materials
Upon talking with Jenna, you learn that she was diagnosed with a reading disorder when she was 8 years old. She was enrolled in special education classes throughout her educational career. She states that she has a reading rate that is significantly below average. Whereas an average student may be able to read a chapter in 45 minutes, it takes Jenna 3-4 hours to read the same material. Because of this limitation, she uses books-on-tape when available.
