As the Regional Coordinator for the Southeastern Ohio region, my role is to serve as a
resource person for distance learners, colleges and universities, and business and
industry. I also facilitate collaborations between higher education, business and industry,
and the community.
I have first-hand experiences as an adult student and as a distance learner. These
experiences provide me with a background that will enable me to better assist students in
pursuing their educational goals and connecting them with Ohio's many fine colleges and
universities to locate the courses or programs they seek. As a resource for business and
industry, I am also available to assist organizations in bringing quality professional
development opportunities to your employees. My role is to connect the state's students,
institutions, businesses and industries so that all may take advantage of the wonderful
educational and training opportunities across our beautiful state.
The majority of my education has been as a non-traditional student: an adult, employed
full-time, and raising a family. After being out of school for several years I decided to
continue my education at Muskingum Tech, located in my hometown. I completed an
associate's degree in Accounting, then went on to complete a bachelor's degree in
Business Administration at the local Ohio University regional campus, and an MBA from
the University of Findlay in northwestern Ohio.
I received my first taste of distance learning at Ohio University. At the time there were a
limited number of business courses offered at the regional campus where I was enrolled.
The university used microwave technology to broadcast courses from the main campus to
the regional campuses so I was able to take advantage of courses being offered from the
main campus without leaving the regional campus. And although I earned my MBA
from the University of Findlay, I have never been to the campus. The entire curriculum
was completed through video conferencing technology and on-line without ever having
to leave my hometown in southeastern Ohio. I let the technology bring the courses to me.
