Summary of Ceremonies:

Chairperson Sharon Brehm introduced Chancellor Roderick Chu, who officially opened the catalog and publicly recognized Ohio's provosts, chief instructional officers, deans, and faculty on their collaborations to make Ohio Learning Network and OhioLEARNS! a reality. Dr. Carol Cartwright, President of Kent State University, appeared via videoconference to offer a brief congratulatory statement about the OhioLEARNS! project. Dr. Kenneth Zirkle, President of University of Findlay, and Dr. Edward Erner, Vice President of Academic Affairs for University of Findlay, also appeared via videoconference to congratulate those involved with OhioLEARNS! Dr. Val Moeller, President of Columbus State Community College, spoke in person about her institution's distance education initiatives in relation to the OhioLEARNS! catalog. Chairperson Brehm called on all representatives in attendance and at remote sites to sign OLN's "Memorandum of Understanding," at which point the ceremony came to a close.
 

Approval of Minutes:
The minutes from the October 10th board meeting were accepted and approved. 

Action Items:

  • The board approved both the OLN budget and amended bylaws as presented. 
Project Updates:
  • OhioLEARNS Catalog! - On opening day, 545 courses from 17 institutions were in the catalog. 
  • Content and Courseware Task Force - Fred Siff will chair a taskforce to explore statewide training opportunities for courseware use. 
  • Professional Development RFP - Proposals are due January 31, 2000. A funding task force will discuss future program funding. 
  • Emerging Workforce Development - Carey asked for the board's input, as well as the campuses' on this new funding program titled "Emerging Statewide Needs." 
  • OVI Conference - The inaugural OVI conference held in November was a success. A second conference for OVI is planned for 2000. 
  • Distance Learning Specialists - George Steele introduced Distance Learning Specialists to board members and updated the board on DLS training and outreach efforts.
